ust the other day we told you about HP and Dell’s plan of entering the ultrabook bandwagon in early 2012 and now word on internet has it both the companies are planning to launch slate tablets with Windows 8 operating system in the third quarter of 2012. Earlier HP was working on a slate tablet based on Windows 7 OS but dropped the project in favor of webOS based TouchPads. Unfortunately even that project failed miserably and HP had to call it quit from tablet segment. As for Dell, it has a tablet in the form of Streak 10 Pro in China. Dell and Baidu to develop tablets, mobile phones
Though Dell is a leader in personal computer space, it doesn’t have a good record in tablet and mobile phone segments. But now the company thinks it can change its fortune by jointly developing tablets and mobile phones with China’s search engine leader Baidu. Reportedly, Dell will partner with Baidu to develop tablets and mobile phones targeted at Chinese consumers. From out understanding, Dell will develop hardware and Baidu will develop software. Dell has presented a new line of business laptops, more specifically the Vostro 3555 Series which are already available for purchase at Dell SMB online, with a starting price of $430. There are quite a few options for the Dell Vostro 3555 Series such as a dual-core E2-3000M processor or a more powerful quad-core A8-3500M. The memory RAM can go up to 6GB, while the storage capacity on the hard-drive has a limit of 500GB and anther option is the DVD burner or Blu-Ray. Dell Kills Its Losing Streak 5 Tablet
Today is a dark day for 5-inch tablet fans, all 12 of them. Dell announced that its Streak 5 tablet, as reached the end of its life, with no similarly-sized replacement on the way. This move comes as no surprise to us, because we found many flaws with Dell’s 5-inch slate, including its outdated Android 1.6 OS, sluggish performance, and lack of 720p video recording. Still, Dell did snuff out the product in style by adorning the Streak 5 product page with a picture of a woman on a road trip with the words “Goodbye Streak 5, it’s been a great ride.” Unfortunately the Streak 5, one of the only mobile gadgets to use a 5-inch display, sat between two very popular product categories.
